Golf tournament benefits local families of fallen or wounded Iraq and Afghanistan vets

A good time is slated for a great cause on Monday, June 28th at the Orange County Golf Club--121 Golf Links Road in Middletown, New York—as the Committee for the Families of Iraq and Afghanistan War Vets hosts this year’s Golf for Good outing. The $175 per player entry fee includes a full day of golf, along with a barbeque lunch and a three course sit down dinner. There will also be a silent auction, a “closest-to-the pin” ball drop from Sullivan-County-based Shamrock Helicopter and a chance to score a hole-in-one and win one of two new automobile prizes—one from Robert Green Chevrolet, and another from M&M Auto Group—both located in Sullivan County.  “We’ve had a Shamrock helicopter pilot volunteer to fly low to release golf balls over the course for our closest-to-the-pin contest,” remarks Monroe-resident Steven Herfield, CEO of the Metropolitan Companies, Inc. who organized this year’s event. “That’s the kind of enthusiasm and participation this cause engenders,” he adds.  Since its inception five years ago, the Committee for the Families of Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans has raised over $100,000 for local families. According to Ray McCarthy, president and spokesperson for the group, that number could double this year alone.
Funds raised from the event are donated to families of soldiers throughout the region who have been killed or wounded in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. There are an assortment of sponsorship opportunities from Tee sponsors ($200) to Hole sponsors ($500) Silver Sponsors ($1,000) Gold Sponsors ($2500 and Platinum Sponsors ($5000). Sponsorship packages will include golf packages according to levels.
